Calendar Music (dome) is a 2 minute, 360 degree immersive fulldome format digital animated film. Conceived, composed, and animated by Vibeke Sorensen, it is a sonification and visualization of the Balinese Uku Calendar, which is unique in that it has 10 concurrent weeks of different lengths from a 1 day week to a 10 day week. The visual and sonic polyrhythms of the calendar become apparent when the length of a day, normally 24 hours, is shortened to 1/4 second and each day is assigned a pitch in the Balinese pentatonic and heptatonic scale and a colour based on Balinese cosmology. The result is similar to the polyrhythms of Balinese Gamelan music, and Indonesian ikat weavings. Sorensen suggests that the concept of time in Bali is fundamentally musical. This film was produced in Fuldome format to fully immersive the viewer.
